WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LODGE!!!!!!!
Just Updated
I personally don't like Skye that much, for a variety of reasons. For one, she is not very logical, and she acts on pure impulse half the time, and some very strange reasoning the other. What I really don't like, though, is how she treats other people, especially Sean.
In the first episode she instantly likes him, and even sends a picture to Josh to ask him if he should be her boyfriend. She still doesn't stop trying to flirt with him, however, even when she learns that Danielle is his girlfriend, which is also poor treatment of Danielle, and she sort of assumes that just because Danielle is dating the boy she likes means that she is not a very good person. Honestly, if Skye wasn't like that in the beginning, they would likely have become friends much quicker. Danielle is often portrayed as shallow, loving mostly clothes and appearances (my brothers and I call her Audrey, as in Audrey Rose, from Descendants), but Skye is really the same way. When she is nearby Danielle when the other girl is doing something like complaining about muddy shoes, she rolls her eyes and writes her off as lame. But she does much the same thing on several occasions, and no one notices or points it out, NOT EVEN DANIELLE.
When she is dating Ben (which I could never really tell when they stopped just fake dating, but that might just be my attention span lol), she still stays very close to Sean and says that they're just friends. What I wish she would have done in the situation where Danielle doesn't like her because she's hitting on Sean (which I think is a perfectly valid reason to dislike someone, btw) is rather than insisting she's not, just say "okay, I'm sorry, won't do it again," and take a step back from him. Even if she really wasn't, she could just stop interacting with him the slightest bit, because friendships don't disappear if you talk to each other slightly less. Unfortunately, what she would likely do is very not-subtly avoid him like the plague, and always have an excuse to be away from him. She should just talk to him little less, stand a little farther away, touch him less, and just generally act like a normal person. If he was upset because she wasn't hanging out with him, she could simply explain that she was trying to make sure it didn't seem like she was flirting with him, because she didn't want to get between him and Danielle. Also, explain this like a reasonable course of action, not like a sad toddler who didn't get their way, because that would cause him to be mad at Danielle for being over-possessive, when she really isn't.
After, she could also talk to him about their feelings for each other, and make sure they're on the same page. If they decided they liked each other more than their pre-existing partners, they could agree to break up with them, and that would be okay.
This leads my to my next point. At the regionals, after Sean loses and crashes (totally his Dad's fault. He's so surprised he showed up that he falls off his bike. Think it was just a coincidence that he crashed right where his Dad was standing and that the camera slowed down and zoomed in on Gil? Nope.) and he kisses Skye when he's sad and she comes to comfort him, this is where it gets complicated. On one hand, he should not be cheating on Danielle, and if he feels like he's going to cheat on her, that means they shouldn't be dating, but that's another story. (Also, can we talk about how Thomas Doherty obviously didn't actually kiss her irl? They were too far apart.) On the other hand, he was pretty sad and hurt, and he probably just wanted someone to love him and make him feel better, which would have been a great angle to play off more than "it was the heat of the moment", by the way (hint, hint, directors). Self esteem issues are always great as long as you keep some sympathy for the character and don't just go on about how they think they'll never make it, based on no evidence whatsoever. There has to be a story where someone said something or did something to them to make the feel that way, or they have something like clinical depression, and see the bad in all their failures. (I think I'll do a Sean analysis about this, because I find it very interesting.)
As for Skye, her response is running away. This sort of makes sense, because she is pretty overwhelmed and just wants to get away, but if someone kisses you and you reject them, unless you've told them before you have absolutely no romantic feelings for them or don't like being touched etc.-which she has said she doesn't like him that way, but her actions say otherwise, so this doesn't really count-then you should take time to explain it, and not hurt them by storming away like you're disgusted, or you hate them, especially if they are literally in the middle of apologizing.
Later, when Ben finally finds out about Skye and Sean kissing and freaks out, there are a lot of things she could do. Of course, the show already established that she should have told him, so I won't rail on about that, but there are other things. She should talk to Ben, instead of letting Sean do it, because Ben isn't mad at her, he's mad at his friend. Sean then wouldn't be shoved and hurt himself.
The most important section is Season 2. (Spoiler alert). After Skye chooses Sean (I was shocked that she actually chose someone and didn't just choose them both as friends or whatever. Also, they both pick up their phones, and what are the chances Ben just happened to get a message at the same time as Sean. Another possibility is that they just both have the same notification noise, and didn't know who's it was. When it happened, I actually shouted "IT'S GONNA BE A POLYARMORY!", but then again, this is Disney we're talking about, so...) she is seemingly happy with her choice and glad that it's all behind her. Ben admits that he thought that he was going to be chosen, and that's when it gets really interesting.
Over the next few episodes, it's mostly plot stuff, Alex, threats, etc., but in the in-between moments, there is an awful lot of flirting between Ben and Skye, for a guy who respects her decision and a girl who is content with her boyfriend. It really annoys me how much everyone is just totally okay with the idea of cheating on everyone. Ben and Sean are still super tense, and Skye does nothing to stop that either. Then comes the part where I really start to hate her.
First, it's at the little house on the island. Sean shows up, after abandoning work, drenched and having run through an electrical storm to find her and keep her safe (and I DO NOT approve of the way Ed criticized Sean about letting her run off on her own, like he didn't have a good reason.), only to find her stuck on Ben and with Danielle all grumpy in the middle. Basically the whole time it's silent argument between the three of them, and I really love Alex at times like these, because she says the sensible things.
Anyway, then I'll just skip through all the infuriating almost-cheating and Skye taking everything Sean does for her for granted (in case you can't tell by now, I'm a big fan of loyalty, one of the infinite reasons I love HarryxUma in Descendants, btw), to the Enduro.
Ah, the Enduro. So much fun, so much drama.
So first, there's the whole scandal with Noah, Kaylee, and Frankie about the song which I might talk about later. Then there's finding the house picture with the secret clue and whatnot. But what I want to talk about, is the race itself, or rather, the partner situation. It was a bad decision on Sean's part to accept to being partners with Jess instead of Skye, but (and I might be wrong on this, I haven't watched this episode in a while, so sorry) I'm pretty sure Skye wanted to drop out or something anyway, and I'm not one hundred percent sure that the deal even said they had to partners in the next race (again, correct me if I'm wrong), and they would be partners in a actual career. I'm pretty positive that Skye was not looking for a permanent career, she just wanted to have fun with her boyfriend at a race. Later, Sean comes and says he's sorry and that he'll change back, like a good boyfriend, and she FORGIVES HIM and SAYS HE CAN RIDE WITH JESS! This is important! After this, he's happy and says thanks and stuff, and goes to race. After this, Skye acts all mopey and sad like Sean abandoned her to the horrors of the world without him and she'll never be the same again *crying noises*. But she literally told him to do it!
Then later, in Ed's juice truck, he makes Ben go be her partner bc Sean is horrible and evil boy who broke his daughter's heart (and then apologized and asked permission which he received). Then Skye is all like "Oh, Ben! You have saved me! Thank you for being my Enduro partner!" *insert that reuniting scene Walter likes from Spies in Disguise*
(What I do like, however, was that it stayed realistic and didn't make Skye come in first place, which obviously wouldn't happen since she was a mostly inexperienced biker and Sean and Jess had done several competitions together.)
So then they all live happily ever after, Yay!
Nope.
Skye breaks up with Sean because she couldn't manage to do that right when she legit decided between him and Ben, and then he leaves with Jess for a summer biking tour (I didn't catch any parental agreement or supervision there either, also, Sean doesn't have a bag or anything so...). Then the remaining kids go find the treasure, which includes clashing between Danielle and Skye for Ben's love, because apparently Ben wasn't aloud to get a girlfriend or do anything other than chase after Skye while she was busy with her boyfriend, and not move on and be a decent human about rejection, UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE.
So then of course, Skye runs to tell Ben that she made the wrong decision after a long long thought process and preparation, so she obviously made the right choice now in about two minutes of consideration, and she's in love with him, only to find him kissing his new girlfriend, Danielle (duhn duhn duhn).
Then it ends.
If you're still here, congrats, you made it.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
